Safari Adventures in Jim Corbett: A Journey Through the Six Safari Zones

Jim Corbett National Park is one of India's oldest national parks and is famous for its diverse flora and fauna. The park is home to six safari zones, each with its unique characteristics and wildlife.     

                                                                                                                                  

Bijrani Zone

The Bijrani Zone is another popular safari zone in the park, located on the edge of the park and easily accessible from Ramnagar. The zone is known for its beautiful landscapes and diverse wildlife, including tigers, elephants, and leopards. Visitors can explore the zone on a Gypsy, a small open vehicle that can accommodate up to six people at a time. The Gypsy picks up guests from their hotel and drops them back after the safari. Visitors can also stay at the Bijrani Forest Rest House, which provides a comfortable stay amidst nature. The zone is open from mid-October to mid-June.The Bijrani Zone is located in the southern part of the park and is a popular safari destination. The zone is open from mid-October to mid-June and visitors can explore it on a Gypsy. The zone is an ideal habitat for tigers, and visitors can also spot other animals like elephants, deer, and langurs. The zone is also home to a variety of bird species like the peafowl, red junglefowl, and the crested serpent eagle. Visitors can also admire the different species of trees like Sal, Rohini, and Chir Pine.



Jhirna Zone


Entry Timings- Morning 6 to 9/ Afternoon 3 to 6

Number of Permits- 30 in each slot

Type of Vehicle- Gypsy

Number of Max. Guests- 6 (Excluding Driver and Guide)

Duration of Safari- Min 3 hours



The Jhirna Zone is located on the southern side of the park and is known for its open grasslands and scrub forests. It is an ideal habitat for herbivores like deer and antelopes, and is also frequented by tigers and leopards. Visitors can explore the zone on a Gypsy. The zone is open throughout the year and offers a unique experience during monsoons when the grasslands turn lush green. Visitors can also spot a variety of birds like Red Junglefowl, Hill Myna, and Grey-headed Fishing Eagle.



Dhela Zone


Entry Timings- Morning 6 to 9/ Afternoon 3 to 6

Number of Permits- 15 in each slot

Type of Vehicle- Gypsy

Resort Pick Up- Yes

Number of Max. Guests- 6 (Excluding Driver and Guide)

Duration of Safari- Min 3 hours



The Dhela Zone is located in the southern part of the park and is the newest addition to the safari zones. It is an ideal habitat for tigers and visitors can also spot other animals like elephants, chitals, and sambhars. The zone is open throughout the year and visitors can explore it on a Gypsy. The zone is also home to a variety of bird species like crested serpent eagle, blossom-headed parakeet, and the red junglefowl. Visitors can also enjoy the scenic beauty of the zone and admire the different species of trees like Sal, Rohini, and Haldu. The Dhela Zone is a perfect safari destination for those who want to explore the less-crowded part of the park and enjoy a peaceful safari experience.



Durga Devi Zone

Entry Timings- Morning 6 to 9/ Afternoon 3 to 6

Number of Permits- 15 in each slot

Type of Vehicle- Gypsy

Number of Max. Guests- 6 (Excluding Driver and Guide)

Duration of Safari- Min 3 hours


The Durga Devi Zone is located in the northeastern part of the park and is open from mid-November to mid-June. Visitors can explore the zone on a Gypsy and spot animals like elephants, tigers, and leopards. The zone is also home to a variety of bird species like the woodpecker, kingfisher, and the crested serpent eagle. Visitors can also admire the different species of trees like the Khair, Sissoo, and Sal.



Garjiya Zone


Entry Timings- Morning 6 to 9/ Afternoon 3 to 6

Number of Permits- 30 in each slot

Type of Vehicle- Gypsy

Resort Pick Up- Yes

Number of Max. Guests- 6 (Excluding Driver and Guide)

Duration of Safari- Min 3 hours



The Garjiya Zone is located in the central part of the park and is known for its diverse wildlife and scenic beauty. It is an ideal habitat for tigers, and visitors can also spot other animals like elephants, leopards, and deer. The zone is open from mid-November to mid-June, and visitors can explore it on a Gypsy. The zone is also home to a variety of bird species like the peafowl, pheasants, and parakeets. Visitors can also admire the different species of trees like Sal, Semal, and Khair.



Dhikala Zone


Entry Timings- Morning 6 AM to 11 AM/ Afternoon 12 Noon to 5 PM

Resort Pick Up- No

Canter Capacity- 17 Guests in each Canter

Number of Canter in each Slot- 4 x 17 in each canter

Number of Permits- 64 in each slot

Type of Vehicle- Canter

Duration of Safari- Min 3 hours



The Dhikala Zone is the largest and most popular safari zone in the park, covering an area of 520 square kilometers. It is known for its dense Sal forest and grasslands, which are ideal habitats for tigers and elephants. Visitors can explore the zone on a Canter, a large open vehicle that can accommodate up to 16 people at a time. The Canter picks up guests from Ramnagar Lakhimpur Chungi point for a day trip. If you're planning a two-day trip, you will be dropped at the same point and have to arrange transportation to your hotel. The safari isn't ideal for young children or elderly people as the duration is quite long. Visitors can also stay at the Dhikala Forest Lodge, which provides an immersive stay amidst nature. In addition to tigers and elephants, the zone is home to other wildlife such as deer, sloth bears, and crocodiles.
